Short answer

GE Oven Not Heating: The Short Answer

A GE electric oven that will not heat usually has a burned-out bake element or a failed temperature sensor. A GE gas oven that clicks or hums but never lights has a weak igniter. Both are one-visit repairs from $175. If the oven display is dead, it may be the control board or power to the oven.
What it means

Electric or gas?

  • Electric, element not glowing redThe bake element is burned out. Look for a blister or break on the element.
  • Electric, temperature way offThe oven heats but the temperature is wrong: the temperature sensor or the control board.
  • Gas, clicks or glows but no flameYou hear a click or see the igniter glow for a minute with no flame: the igniter is too weak to open the gas valve.

Check these first

  1. Make sure the oven is not in Sabbath mode or a delayed start (common after a power outage).
  2. For an electric oven, reset the breaker. Ranges use a double breaker; one tripped side gives you burners but no oven.
  3. Check the clock. If the display is blank, the oven has no power or the board is out.

When to Call Us

  • The element is broken or sparked.
