Short answer

Whirlpool Dryer Not Heating: The Short Answer

A Whirlpool dryer that spins but does not heat usually has a blown thermal fuse, a burned-out heating element, or a gas valve coil that quit (on gas dryers). Nine times out of ten the real cause behind a blown fuse is a clogged vent. We replace the part, clean the lint out, and check the vent so it does not happen again.
What it means

Electric or gas?

  • Electric dryer, no heat at allCheck that both breakers are on. A 240-volt dryer can run on one leg of power and spin with no heat.
  • Gas dryer, heats then goes coldHeats for a few minutes then goes cold: usually the gas valve coils.
  • Either type, takes two cyclesWarm but takes two cycles: a clogged vent or lint inside the dryer.
Try this first

Check these first

  1. Reset the dryer breaker (both switches if there are two).
  2. Pull the dryer out and look at the vent hose. If it is crushed or packed with lint, that is the problem and it is also a fire risk.
  3. Clean the lint screen and the slot it sits in.

When to Call Us
