Short answer

Samsung Refrigerator Not Cooling: The Short Answer

When a Samsung refrigerator stops cooling, the most common cause is ice building up on the evaporator coil behind the back wall of the fridge. The fan cannot push air past the ice, so the freezer stays cold but the fridge side warms up. Other causes are a failed evaporator fan, a bad defrost heater or sensor, or dirty condenser coils under the fridge. We repair all of these, from $175.
What it means

Signs you will notice

  • Freezer fine, fridge warmThe fridge is 45°F or warmer while the freezer still freezes.
  • Ice on the back wallA sheet of ice or frost on the back wall inside the fridge.
  • Water under the drawersWater pooling under the crisper drawers (a frozen drain line, the same problem).
  • Fan noise comes and goesThe fan sounds loud, then goes quiet, then loud again.
Try this first

Check these first

  1. Turn the temperature dial to 37°F and give it 24 hours if someone changed it.
  2. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents on the back wall of the fridge.
  3. Pull the fridge out and look at the coils underneath. If they are covered in dust and pet hair, that alone can stop cooling in a Houston summer.

When to Call Us

  • You see ice on the back wall. Melting it with a hair dryer works for a week; the defrost part that failed needs replacing.
  • The fridge is warm and the compressor is hot or clicking.
  • The fridge has been warm for more than a day. Food safety comes first; we can usually come the same day.

What the Repair Costs

Diagnostic is $75, free with the repair. A fan, defrost heater or sensor is a one-visit repair from $175. A sealed-system problem (compressor or refrigerant) costs more, and we tell you honestly if the fridge is worth it before you spend anything.

Got questions?

Samsung Refrigerator Not Cooling FAQ

Why does this keep happening on Samsung fridges?

Many Samsung models have a drain and defrost design that ices up over time. The fix is a part, not a whole new fridge.

How long will food last while the fridge is warm?

Keep the door closed. Milk and meat are the first to go; after a few hours above 40°F, do not take chances.

Can you fix the ice maker at the same time?

Yes. Samsung ice makers often freeze up from the same problem, and we check it on the same visit.

How much does the repair cost?

The diagnostic is $75 and it is free if you go ahead with the repair. Repairs start from $175, and you approve the price before any work starts. The repair comes with a 30-day labor warranty.

Do you offer same-day service?

Yes, in many cases. We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm. Call or text (346) 431-1725 or book online at nurappliance.com and we will find the earliest time.

Do you give discounts?

Yes. 20% off for seniors, 20% off for military members and veterans, and 10% off for returning customers.
